When I started to make first plans for our Ladakh trip, Tso Kar was high on my wish list. But there was a catch. It lies on an altitude of 4600 meters, you have to cross 5300 meters high Tanglang La pass – so not an easy trip, especially if you are traveling with a kid. We visited the lake in the second half of October, when Ladakh was practically free of tourists. The road from Leh to the small village of Thukje was really good and it was a scenic 5 hour drive from Leh. We arrived to this dusty village late in the afternoon and it was almost empty. There was just one open guesthouse and the room was really basic. 🙂 That night was the coldest on our trip in Ladakh. It was around -15 degrees Celsius and we were sleeping covered with all available blankets. 🙂 But before that cold night we did some exploring of the area. And we were simply amazed by the beauty of the landscape – couple photos from the first day in this post, many more in the next.
